Planning trips to the mountains – what to keep in mind?

Mountain tours are an excellent way of leisure time, which is gaining more and more enthusiasts every year. For a good reason – magnificent views are the best reward for the hardships of hiking. However, to conquer the peaks in total comfort and safety, we should remember the basic rules for planning mountain trips. The most important of these are presented below.

Route selection

Planning a trip to the mountains should start with selecting the route. First, its length is important, which should be adjusted to our fitness capabilities and the current season – remember that during the autumn and winter get darker faster. For a start, let’s bet on popular, frequently used, and not too exposed mountain trails for beginners, which we will cover in a few hours. The elevation is also not insignificant – that’s why we recommend the lower, scenic mountains of the Silesian Beskid to beginner hikers. When planning a hiking trip in the mountains, find mountain shelters or bus stops along the way. This is an ideal place to have a meal and replenish your strength before continuing your hike.

Weather forecast

Autumn and winter are times that, even in the mountains, which are not too high, require caution – weather conditions can change rapidly, surprising even seasoned hikers. Therefore, before setting out, it is essential to check the meteorological conditions – in addition to the temperature, which falls much faster in the mountains than in the valleys, forecasts of wind strength and possible rain or snowfall will be important for us. Also, snow- or ice-covered sections will require extra time to cover them.

Appropriate clothing

An essential part of planning a mountain trip is completing clothing that will ensure our comfort on the trail. What to take with you on the trail? First of all, let’s take care of the proper clothing for the season – thermal underwear, a sweatshirt or warm fleece, and a windproof softshell or lightweight down jacket will be useful. Put on breathable, waterproof pants too. Having a rain jacket in your backpack is also a good idea. In addition, we will also need trekking shoes with a grooved tread and an ankle-stabilizing upper.

Necessary equipment

Before we set out on the trail, we should pack the essentials of a mountaineer – a map (in addition to the one in your phone, a paper one will also come in handy), a phone with emergency numbers, and a charged power bank. Be sure to bring provisions for the road, a water supply, and a hot tea thermos. Let’s remember a headlamp, first-aid kit, and UV sunscreen – this one can come in handy not only in summer but also on sunny autumn and winter days. Trekking poles are optional, providing stable support on the approaches.

After a mountain hike – a well-deserved rest

A hike in the mountains should end in the comfortable Przystanek Góry – an ideal base for fans of active recreation. Located in the Silesian Beskid Mountains, Szczyrk is the ideal place for a successful family holiday. Mountainous landscapes and many attractions await visitors of all ages and all seasons. Family time in Beskid Śląski – attractions of a mountain resort

Szczyrk, located in the Silesian Beskid, is an excellent place for a family holiday in beautiful surroundings. This attractive tourist region has been attracting crowds of active tourism enthusiasts for years. Great hiking trails await mountain lovers at any time – the scenic yet not too demanding routes are perfect for a trip with children or older family members. In particular, we recommend a hike to Skrzyczne – the highest peak of the Silesian Beskid, Klimczok, and Malinowska Skała. One of the biggest attractions of the mountain resort is the two-section chairlift leading to the already mentioned Skrzyczne. The ascent is by a modern 4-person couch with a stop at Hala Jaworzyna.

Szczyrk is also a natural paradise for fans of winter sports. The local ski centers offer numerous ski slopes of varying difficulty. There is also no shortage of attractions in the lowlands – the Beskidzka Art Gallery, the Skalite ski-jumping complex, and historical sanctuaries are just some of the places worth including in your plan to visit the area. For fans of active leisure, we also recommend trying out the offer of the Central Sports Centre with its indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and sports fields. We also encourage you to take family walks along the promenade by the Żylica River – a modernized walking and cycling path.

Przystanek Góry – an excellent place for a family holiday in the Beskidy Mountains

Those planning a family holiday in the Silesian Beskids are invited to Przystanek Góry. The cozy resort offers 8 mountain-inspired rooms with bathrooms, including 3 family suites and 5 double rooms. Each has been carefully arranged and equipped with all the necessary amenities. From the windows of each room, you can admire the views of Szczyrk, which are delightfully different in color each season. We serve a tasty, varied breakfast for a good start of the day. After an exertion on the mountain trail, we encourage you to relax in the climatic fireplace room or, if the weather is good, on the large terrace. We have prepared a gazebo with a barbecue area, a playground with swings, a sandpit, a slide, and a trampoline in the spacious garden. We have prepared a colorful playroom with the family’s youngest members in mind. We are also happy to advise you on planning excursions in the area on and off the mountain trails.
